Vertiv™ Power Insight Now Integrates with Dell/EMC VxRail HCI Platforms

CJ Meiser •

As core-to-edge growth accelerates, data center and IT teams are using a new playbook to manage infrastructure. Traditional practices can’t scale to encompass more sites, systems, and devices than ever. Here’s what does: hyperconverging infrastructure.

Hyperconverging infrastructure (HCI) means using a software-defined system to combine traditional data center capabilities, including storage, compute, networking and remote management capabilities. Data center and IT teams are using HCI to modernize technology infrastructures. They gain new capabilities such as familiar management tools that enable them to work more efficiently, standardized processes that increase operational consistency, the ability to scale easily using APIs.

The pandemic was a proving ground for HCI, as many organizations accelerated digital transformation plans and data center and IT teams worked remotely. Having proven its mettle, the market for HCI solutions is growing rapidly. Fortune Business Insights projects it will grow from, $6.79 billion in 2021 to $32.19 billion in 2028. Companies as various as Cisco Systems, Dell Technologies, Nutanix, Microsoft, and VMWare all offer HCI solutions.

Extend HCI Gains with the Vertiv™ Power Insight VxRail Plugin

However, organizations don’t need to stop with integrating IT and networking solutions. They can also use software to converge other infrastructure, such as power solutions from Vertiv.

Vertiv™ Power Insight is complimentary web-based software that data center and IT teams can use to manage up to 100 Vertiv™ uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs) and rack power distribution units (rPDUs). With its latest version, Vertiv Power Insight v2.5 provides a plugin that seamlessly integrates with Dell/EMC VxRail HyperConverged Infrastructure (HCI) Platforms. That means users of Vertiv Power Insight gain visibility into the power resources supporting their mission-critical virtualized applications, as well as tools to streamline key management duties.

The VxRail plugin enables data center and IT teams to:

  • Gain centralized visibility in minutes: IT administrators can download Vertiv Power Insight from Vertiv.com and quickly get up and running with centralized UPS monitoring capabilities in VxRail. Vertiv Power Insight passes information directly to VxRail, providing users with continuous awareness and updates on the performance of power resources supporting VxRail HCI infrastructure.

  • View power status and alarms: Users gain a holistic view of Vertiv™ UPS and Vertiv™ rPDU performance across the VxRail distributed infrastructure. They can use the software as a power manager to view capacity load percentage, battery percentage charge, and battery time remaining, leveraging insights to improve power performance.

  • Configure alarms and notifications: Teams can configure power alarms and notifications directly in VxRail, rather than logging into a second system to handle power management responsibilities separately. This brings greater clarity to daily operations.

  • Associate servers and hosts with Vertiv devices: It’s easy to add and connect devices easily with intelligent power management capabilities. Teams can also view the power and physical servers that support virtual machines, improving their accountability and responsiveness to evolving conditions.

  • Enable automatic shutdowns: IT administrators can automatically execute simple or complex shutdown processes, protecting infrastructure when critical events occur.

  • Ensure high availability of infrastructure: Teams can ensure the high availability of physical and virtual servers by taking proactive steps. These steps include configuring automatic processes that migrate computing workloads to healthy hosts, updating UPS and rPDU batteries, and proactively replacing aging power devices.
Streamline IT management duties with Vertiv Power Insight

Fast-paced business growth is straining IT teams’ ability to execute. By hyperconverging IT, networking, and power infrastructure using Dell/EMC VxRail HyperConverged Infrastructure (HCI) Platforms and Vertiv Power Insight, data center and IT teams can accomplish multiple goals. They can simplify IT management duties, gain greater visibility into power resources that they can use to optimize their performance, and prevent harm to infrastructure with controlled shutdowns.
