Kickin' It With The Crew: The High Performance, High Resolution KVM Switch

Nowhere is Vertiv technology less obvious while its output is more visible than in the case of the Vertiv™ Avocent® High Performance KVMs at Lower.com Field in Columbus, Ohio, home to the 2020 MLS Cup champion Columbus Crew.

Vertiv is a Founding Partner of Lower.com Field and supports the stadium’s mission-critical systems – and world class customer experience – with power protection, thermal management, and IT management.

In the stadium broadcast control room, broadcast engineers rely on Avocent High-Performance KVM switches to enable secure, seamless, low-latency, high-resolution data and video manipulation across scoreboards and digital signage.

The technology itself is out of sight – transmitters are housed in equipment racks with the relevant servers, while the receivers are neatly concealed near the work area. Here, broadcast engineers are able select and post content that appears on the scoreboards and media screens in the stadium. The content appears, larger than life, on the stadium’s vast array of digital displays, which ensure fans remain engaged and informed before, during, and after the match – from up-to-the-second stats to replays to lyrics to the club’s love song, I Can’t Help Falling in Love with Crew.

Speed of switching and clarity of video are key benefits of these KVM switches , as our expert explains in a live remote from the control room.

In addition to controlling the content viewed on the screens in stadiums around the globe, Avocent KVM switches are broadly used by organizations from financial services to government to healthcare, among other industries.

For example, multiple Vertiv™ Avocent® HMX 6500R High Performance KVM receivers can operate in conjunction with a single transmitter. This receiver can provide access to both physical and virtual machines by incorporating Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) protocols into the receiver. The Avocent® HMX 6500R allows all operators to access all machines in a more efficient way without the addition of a new transmitter every time a user needs access.
